Russian Team at Risk of Missing European Taekwondo Championships in Munich

Just two days before the start of the European Taekwondo Championships in Munich, the participation of the Russian national team remains uncertain due to unresolved entry visas for athletes and officials.

The tournament, which brings together Europe’s top taekwondo athletes at BMW Park, is set to begin this Monday under the organization of the European Taekwondo Union. However, the Russian delegation is still awaiting final approval from German authorities.

The situation is raising concern because, although World Taekwondo recently allowed Russia and Belarus to return to international competitions under their national flags, administrative obstacles and entry regulations in European Union countries continue to complicate participation.

If the issue is not resolved in time, one of Europe’s strongest taekwondo nations could miss the championship despite being officially eligible to compete.

The European Championships are considered a key event on the road to future Olympic qualification tournaments, meaning any absence would have a major sporting impact.

For now, federations, athletes, and organizers remain on standby awaiting a final decision as the countdown to the opening day continues.
