Candidates confirmed for 2025 World Taekwondo elections

SEOUL, Korea (Aug 22, 2025) - The full list of candidates standing in the 2025 World Taekwondo elections was today confirmed ahead of the elections which will take place on 23 October at the General Assembly in Wuxi.

SEOUL, Korea (Aug 22, 2025) – The full list of candidates standing in the 2025 World Taekwondo elections was today confirmed ahead of the elections which will take place on 23 October at the General Assembly in Wuxi.

The 2025 General Assembly will be conducted in a hybrid format, with in-person participation in Wuxi and virtual participation for remote attendees. Voting will be conducted by secret ballot using the Lumi Global system.

All officials who are elected will serve a four-year term, beginning the day after the final day of the 2025 World Championships and ending on the final day of the 2029 World Championships.

The candidates are as follows: 

President

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue (Korea) is the sole candidate standing for President.

Vice President

A total of six (6) candidates are standing for three (3) available positions as Vice President, each representing a different Continental Union. The female Council Member who receives the highest number of votes will be elevated to Vice President.

Council Member

A total of 34 candidates are standing for 14 available Council Member positions.

In accordance with the Statutes, each Continental Union must be represented by at least one male and one female Council Member. Once the continental and gender representation requirements are fulfilled, the remaining four (4) seats will be allocated to the candidates who receive the highest number of votes overall, regardless of gender or Continental Union.
