Brazil is preparing to return to the centre of the international taekwondo stage with the Brazil Open Taekwondo Championships G2, scheduled to take place from 24 to 27 September 2026 in Londrina, Paraná.
Sanctioned by World Taekwondo, promoted by the Pan American Taekwondo Union and organised by the Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation, the tournament will be held at the Professor Darcy Cortês Sports Gymnasium, widely known as Moringão.
The World Taekwondo-sanctioned event will take place from 24 to 27 September, offering valuable world-ranking points on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games
Its G2 status makes the Brazil Open a major opportunity for athletes to earn valuable World Taekwondo ranking points, improve their seeding positions and strengthen their campaigns during the Olympic cycle towards Los Angeles 2028.
The programme will include senior Kyorugi, cadet and junior competition, recognised and freestyle Poomsae, Para Taekwondo and Para Poomsae, bringing together different generations and disciplines within the sport.
Brazil Enjoys a Historic Period of International Success
The Brazil Open G2 arrives at a particularly significant moment for Brazilian taekwondo, following a period of growing prominence at World Championships, Olympic Games and major events of the Olympic cycle.
Brazil returned to the Olympic podium at Paris 2024 through Edival Pontes, who secured the bronze medal in the men’s -68kg category. That achievement reaffirmed the country’s ability to develop athletes capable of competing successfully at the highest international level.
Brazil’s momentum has continued throughout the current cycle, driven by a new generation of athletes and by a national structure that has strengthened its presence at major international competitions.
At the 2026 Pan American Championships in Rio de Janeiro, the host nation topped the overall standings with eight gold, four silver and five bronze medals, confirming its status as one of the leading forces in continental taekwondo.
This progress reflects sustained technical, organisational and competitive development. Brazil is not only producing athletes capable of winning medals at the sport’s biggest competitions, but is also consolidating its position as an important host of world-class events.
A Strategic G2 Event on the Road to Los Angeles 2028
The G2 classification significantly increases the sporting importance of the tournament.
Senior athletes will have the opportunity to earn points towards the World Taekwondo ranking, which can influence their international seeding, tournament draws and overall position during the qualification pathway towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The Brazil Open will therefore offer both established competitors and emerging international athletes the chance to test themselves against high-level opposition in one of the most competitive regions in world taekwondo.
KPNP K2 Electronic Scoring System Confirmed
The Organising Committee has confirmed that the KPNP K2 Generation 2 electronic Protector and Scoring System will be used for the Kyorugi and Para Taekwondo competitions.
This will provide athletes and coaches with a competition environment aligned with the technological standards currently used at major international events.
All participants must comply with the latest version of the World Taekwondo Competition Rules.

Entries will only be accepted through the official World Taekwondo Global Membership System on the SimplyCompete platform.

Para Taekwondo Classification Procedures
Teams entering Para Taekwondo athletes must organise their travel so that competitors are available for international classification on the dates established by World Taekwondo.
Athletes registered with New or Review status must submit the required Medical Diagnostic Form through the World Taekwondo Classification System within the registration deadline.
Failure to submit the required medical documentation may prevent an athlete from being called for classification and consequently from participating in the competition.
Londrina Calls the International Taekwondo Community
The Brazil Open G2 represents much more than another event on the international calendar.
It will provide athletes with an opportunity to compete against high-level opposition, gain valuable international experience and collect important world-ranking points during a decisive phase of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.
