Astana-. The Kazakhstan Open G-1 2026 completed a day of great competitive intensity at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Arts Palace, a venue that once again confirmed Kazakhstan’s growing capacity to organise first-class international events within the World Taekwondo calendar.
With 16 weight categories contested in the Senior division, the tournament brought together athletes with extensive international experience as well as emerging talents who continue to make their way through the Olympic cycle towards Los Angeles 2028. The quality of the matches, the technical order, the operation of the competition areas and the smooth flow of the sports programme left a very positive impression on the delegations, coaches and officials present in Astana.
Türkiye dominated the overall team medal table with an outstanding performance: 6 gold medals, 1 silver and 10 bronze, for a total of 17 medals. Host nation Kazakhstan finished in second place with 3 golds, 3 silvers and 7 bronzes, collecting 13 medals and confirming the growth of its national team on the world ranking stage. Uzbekistan completed the team podium with 2 golds, 4 silvers and 1 bronze, for a total of 7 medals.
Tunisia, Belarus, Iran, Korea, Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation also stood out, earning places on the medal table in a championship defined by competitive balance and matches of high technical and tactical quality.
Among the women’s individual champions, Minaya Akbarova of Azerbaijan claimed gold in the –46 kg division; Emine Gogebakan of Türkiye won the -49 kg category; Laylo Khasanova of Uzbekistan was crowned champion at -53 kg; Hatice Kübra Ilgun of Türkiye took gold at -57 kg; Wafa Masghouni of Tunisia triumphed at -62 kg; Ozoda Sobirjonova of Uzbekistan won the -67 kg division; Sude Yaren Uzuncavdar of Türkiye captured the -73 kg title; and Zehra Begum Kavukcuoglu, also from Türkiye, prevailed in the +73 kg category.
In the men’s division, the titles went to Kaan Yelaldi of Türkiye in -54 kg; Furkan Ubeyde Camoglu, also from Türkiye, in -58 kg; Tae-Joon Park of Korea in -63 kg; Samirkhon Ababakirov of Kazakhstan in -68 kg; Reza Kalhor of Iran in -74 kg; Raman Turavinau of Belarus in -80 kg; Batyrkhan Toleugali of Kazakhstan in -87 kg; and Beibarys Kablan of Kazakhstan in +87 kg.
The performance of the local representatives was one of the most celebrated highlights of the day. Samirkhon Ababakirov, Batyrkhan Toleugali and Beibarys Kablan delivered three highly valuable gold medals for Kazakhstan, while other national athletes also reached the podium, strengthening the host country’s presence in a demanding international competition.
The event was carried out under a solid organisational structure, with well-ordered matches, properly coordinated competition areas and a technical operation that met the demands of a G-1 championship. The use of the KPNP electronic scoring system, the work of the technical officials and the performance of the refereeing teams allowed the competition to progress with rhythm, precision and sporting credibility.
The Kazakhstan Open G-1 2026 is being held at a strategic moment for Kazakh taekwondo. Under the leadership of Kudrat Shamiyev, President of the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Federation and of the Altaic Taekwondo Union, the country continues to promote an ambitious international agenda, with the institutional support of World Taekwondo and its President, Dr Chungwon Choue.
Among the main officials linked to the development of this agenda are Jinbang Yang, Vice President of World Taekwondo; Ki Su Lee, Technical Delegate of the Open and ATU Referee Chair; Cumhur Dönmez, CSB; Khegay Andrey, Referee Chair of the Kazakhstan Open; as well as the national and technical officials who have worked directly on the implementation of the championship.
The organisation of the Kazakhstan Open G-1 2026 confirms that Astana is not only hosting events, but projecting them with an international vision. In a week marked by the activity of the Altaic Taekwondo Union, the presence of leading officials and the preparation of major future commitments, Kazakhstan continues to consolidate its position as one of the new strategic platforms of world taekwondo.
