BELGIUM. The selection process for Taekwondo referees for the European zone for the Paris Olympic Games has already begun at the Belgian Football Union facilities in Brussels (BEL).

Starting this morning of March 14, 2023, the best and most prominent referees, some with Olympic experience, will be tested in different areas by the World Taekwondo Federation.

The most outstanding group in the different knowledge tests will be selected together with other referees from Africa, America, Asia and Oceania in the different global events of the WT such as Grand Prix and World Championship to finally make the selection of men and women who will be in Paris 2024 as referees.

Song Chul Kim, Amely Moras, Mohamed Shaaban, have explained the selection process to the European judges present in Belgium.

Taekwondo Vlaanderen has organized the logistics for this activity, which is technically directed by the referee Staff of the World Federation.

Erik Baert, President of the Taekwondo Vlaanderen, welcomed the judges and wished them success in this Olympic challenge. He also received a WT recognition from Song Chul Kim on behalf of Chairman Dr. Chungwon Choue.

Moustapha Akkouh and Hassan Sadeghi, Staff Taekwondo Vlaanderen, expressed gratitude to the World Federation for their trust and to Mr. Bennoit Hellings, counselor of Brusselssport, City Of Brussels, for his great support of Taekwondo.

The tests for future Olympic judges will continue with the highest knowledge requirements.

Europe Referees focus to Paris 2024

Knowledge of the rules, English language, medical tests, skills in the combat area, reaction, quick responses, part of what the World Taekwondo judging committee requires to be part of the select group of referees for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Also the performance as a judge in future WT events such as Grand Prix and the world championship will define the final group that must be made up of half men and half women.
